In My Mailbox

I don't do these that often, but I've been getting some crazy good books lately, so here we go!

To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee -- one of those books that you hear so much about and have somehow never read. Hoping to read it before I get back from California. This is the actual edition I got, too. I love the cover. Wish she'd put it on Kindle, but let's be honest, I probably wouldn't buy it if it was over seven bucks.

Snow Flower and the Secret Fan by Lisa See -- got this for $3 at the bookstore today! I liked Amy Tan's books, and it seems like they're similar. The movie looked neat, though the trailer was cheesy.

Scorched Skies by Samantha Young -- second in her Smokeless Fire series. Really unique fantasy! Heh, I may or may not have signed up for a free trial with Amazon Prime to get free shipping on something I bought and looked through the Prime Lending Library and saw this book and nearly died.

Shades of Blood by Samantha Young -- last in the Warriors of Ankh series :( If you haven't checked out this author yet and you like YA or fantasy or paranormal, what are you waiting for? GO!

Fight Club by Chuck Palahniuk (seriously, what kind of name is that) -- I got this for only TWENTY-FIVE CENTS!

Tortured by Caragh M. O'Brien -- a bridge story between Birthmarked and Prized.

On Little Wings by Regina Sirois -- a free download. Contemporary/literary. Such a pretty cover!

Rex Rising by Chrystalla Thoma -- YA fantasy/science fiction with a male protagonist. Looks good! The only time I will allow the use of Bleeding Cowboys font: when it's used for ONE letter rather than the whole thing.

In My Mailbox #4

I think this was supposed to be on Sunday, but I've always been a procrasinator. Here's what's up next for me:

Divergent by Veronica Roth. I'm actually halfway through this, and I'm really starting to like it. At first, it required a little bit too much suspension of disbelief, but the world building is starting to smooth out.

Wither by Lauren DeStefano. Picked this up from the library after reading a sample online. Should be interesting. I'm really into YA dystopian, if you haven't noticed.

Tempest by Julie Cross. I actually wont his from a Goodreads contest, and it looks awesome. Time travel! Romance! Awesome cover! So excited to read this. I hope it actually shows up because I haven't been getting packages in my mailbox lately. Need to rectify this so I can read this book.

The Farseekers by Isobelle Carmody. The sequel to Obernewtyn, and the second in the Obernewtyn series.

The Sea of Monsters by Rick Riordan. I read the first book in Percy Jackson a while ago (The Lightning Thief?) and enjoyed it. I wanted some more Greek gods!

This seems like a lot of books. Wish me luck!

In My Mailbox #3

At least I think this is the third one.

My "to read" list just keeps growing!

Wildefire by Karsten Knight -- Polynesian goddess reincarnated in the body of a sixteen-year-old girl. Picked up from the library. I'm about 50 pages in, and I like it. I just haven't had the time to finish it.

The Emerald Storm by Michael Sullivan -- Fantasy, political intrigue, quests, empires! Bought online - no longer available, but will be published this fall by Orbit Books. I haven't finished Nyphron Rising just yet (only about 10% left) but I love this series!

The Name of This Book is Secret by Pseudonymous Bosch -- Middle grade fun that reminds me of A Series of Unfortunate Events. Only 99 cents from the iBookstore!

Two of a Kind by Celesta Thiessen -- A neat novella about a brother and sister in a dystopian world, written by a friend of mine. Only 99 cents on Kindle. I'm about 1/3 through.

In My Mailbox #2

I'm going to do another of these. . .I don't have any pictures of my beautiful face because they're mostly on Kindle. Have some cover art instead!

Shatter (The Children of Man) by Elizabeth Mock
This book was a free download from Kindle, and I'm really surprised. It's really good writing for free, and I'm about halfway through. I keep wanting to finish it, but I can't find the time! It's the first of a series, and I'm assuming she'll be selling the next one. It has the prophecy/fantasy quest style, but it centers around a large group of people. It's kind of an ensemble cast, which I'm not too used to, but she does it really well.

Gone by Michael Grant
I downloaded this on my new iPhone! It was only $1.99 and it's been on my Goodreads "To Read" list. It's about the disappearance of everyone over fourteen and how the kids react. Some of the kids actually have powers, and different groups are formed in the FAYZ (Fallout Alley Youth Zone). It's counting down to the main character turning fifteen. I think they're going to figure out what happened to the adults eventually.

After the Leaves Fall by Nicole Baart
This was a free read on Kindle, too! It's a coming-of-age novel about a girl who lost her father. It seems kind of short, maybe 50K? But I like it so far, it has a Christian slant and it's been a while since I've read ~inspirational~ fiction.

That's what I've got for now! :)

In My Mailbox #1

Even though this blog is not primarily a book review blog, it's the majority of what I've been doing lately. Thus, In My Mailbox is here!

I tried to do a video, but I didn't end up liking it. Have some pictures of me making weird faces instead!

The Alchemaster's Apprentice by Walter Moers. After reading The City of Dreaming Books, I looked up more of his books, and this one sounded the most interesting. Picked up from the public library, I'm enjoying it already!

The Night is for Hunting by John Marsden. I'm kind of cheating with this onebecause I've had it for a week or so already. Actually, funny story - I checked it out of the library about a month ago. I got to page 60, and it skipped thirty pages to 96!! A whole chunk of the book was missing! So, I had to bring it in and request a different copy from a library nearby. Anyways, I'm about halfway through this. They're quick reads, but I've been reading other things. This is on my "to finish before it's due" list!

The Da Vinci Code by Dan Brown. Picked it up at the Kroc Center library. I've had this small desire to read it ever since it hit the best seller's list. I don't know if, as a Christian, this makes me a traitor or something. My mom tells me it's a good thriller. I'll be the judge of that ;)

I'm also reading Switched by Amanda Hocking on my Kindle. Just past the sample. Not sure what to think yet.

So, there you have it! In My Mailbox the first!
